The visionary game developer, who helped create the wildly popular first-person shooter Call of Duty, has tragically died in a car accident in Los Angeles, California aged 55.

His passing was verified by Electronic Arts, the parent company of Respawn Entertainment, the development studio he co-founded.

The celebrated game designer lost his life when his automobile collided and burst into flames on a freeway in LA on Sunday, according to.

"This represents a devastating loss, and our deepest sympathies go to his family and friends, those closest to him, and the countless individuals inspired by his legacy," an official with Electronic Arts said.
