This Swine Life: Hog Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Leader.

Although not quite at the identical stature as granting clemency to Thanksgiving turkeys, but the county's top official conducted a presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“This pig is innocent. She deserves this act of mercy. She has committed zero crimes,” stated the mayor in a speech with clear references to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued since the beginning of a second term in office.

“Except perhaps for eating six or seven apples per day,” the mayor added. “May this pig enjoy a lengthy and joyful existence free from concern.”

This ceremony, which both honors and questions the local cultural practice of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The swine, provided by a first responder, was given its name from the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “six seven” – inspired by a hip-hop line – often seemingly at random. The craze became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently declared “six-seven” its top term for the year.

A Peaceful Retirement

Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a countryside refuge “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the event’s official press release.

“This swine clemency has become a cherished method to begin the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a decidedly positive message.

“It captures the character of Miami: vibrant, varied, and grounded in customs that bring people together. Every time, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way unique to Miami.”

Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach croquetas and cafecito as they marked the swine's new lease on life.
