People have come together across the country to remember the second anniversary since the Hamas-conducted assault on 7 October 2023, as negotiations advanced in Egypt over an end to the war in Gaza.
The attack led to more than 1,200 people losing their lives and 251 others captured back to Gaza as captives. It was the most deadliest day for the Jewish community since the World War II.
Israel reacted by beginning a military offensive in Gaza which has taken more than 67,000 people, as reported by the territory's Hamas-run health ministry. Its figures are seen as accurate by the UN and other international bodies.
"The aggressive adversaries have caused great damage, but they have not broken us," the prime minister stated on Tuesday.
He also vowed to "achieve all the goals of the war: the return of all the captured, the destruction of the Hamas regime and the assurance that Gaza will not present a risk to Israel".
The national leadership delayed official memorials until 16 October - after the conclusion of the Jewish High Holiday season - but events still took place throughout the country on that day.
A commemorative event for the relatives of Israelis who lost their lives in the Hamas attack was conducted in Tel Aviv. Organized by the victims' relatives, it was broadcast on Israeli television channels.
Some time earlier, a minute's silence was respected around the country.
At the same time, the conflicting parties' negotiating teams gathered in the North African Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh for a second day of indirect talks to review the terms of the plan.
A senior Palestinian official involved in the negotiations indicated that an night meeting of mediated discussions started at 7 PM local time.
The representative said the day's discussions concluded without tangible results, amid disagreements over the recommended Israeli pullout plans from Gaza and over assurances Hamas seeks to guarantee Israel does not restart hostilities after the first phase of the deal.
He noted that the negotiations are "difficult and have still not achieve any real breakthrough," but pointed out that mediators are striving to close the disparities between the both parties.
In the city's public square previously, 29-year-old a woman - whose sibling endured the attack on the Nova music festival, where hundreds were murdered and many more were taken hostage by Hamas militants - shared: "No place feels like home anymore and until every captive are released not a single person will be secure."
"When we see everybody home returned, we can feel relief again. Then we can commence rebuild," she continued.
Outside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's home in Jerusalem, people assembled to demonstrate their support for the families of the abducted. Israel states forty-eight continue in captivity in Gaza, 20 of whom are considered to be living.
Demonstrator Atalia Regev explained: "It's necessary do any agreement needed for the captives to return. But we sincerely need assurances that we will be safe."
Surveys now consistently show that around seventy percent of the population prefer the conflict to finish in return for the liberation of the abducted.
At the site of the gathering, those paying respects came together to pay their respects.
From the site, the boom of aerial bombardments and shelling could be noticed just a brief space away in Gaza, where witnesses reported the heavy Israeli attacks continued.
In Gaza City, bombardments were noted in the dawn of that day in the west side neighborhood, Rimal and zone neighbourhoods and in the east side neighbourhood of that sector, as well the camp to the northwestern area.
"When the evening comes, the fear arrives with it," relocated urban resident a local woman, whose 17-year-old son was died by an Israeli aerial attack earlier, shared.
"Me and my three children are fearful of the air strikes. During nighttime we are lying together, embracing, especially my youngest child who places his face on me all night."
"Continuously we look at the news to see the situation. And I'm concerned that this truce will not be achieved and that the fighting will return to us."
The medical facility in Gaza City said it had received the bodies of several people by the midday, including three who lost their lives in an Israeli strike in the south part area.
A different healthcare center in the south region of Khan Younis said two more dead people had been transported. One of them was died by Israeli forces while attempting to get assistance to the south, medics stated.
