Eric Adams to Endorse Andrew Cuomo in NYC Mayor's Election

NYC's current mayor Mayor Adams declared his decision to back former Governor Cuomo in the upcoming mayoral race, even after months of strained relations between the pair of Democrats.

An Unexpected Turnaround After Previous Accusations

Only weeks ago, Adams had lashed out at the former governor, calling him a “snake and a liar” and alleging of having “a career of pushing Black candidates out of races.” Yet, in a recent development, Mayor Adams changed his position, announcing he now plans to campaign alongside the former governor in areas where he maintains significant backing.

“It's essential to mobilize the Black and brown communities that have experienced urban displacement on how important this election is,” the mayor stated.

Adams continued, “They have watched their housing costs rise due to gentrification and they have been disregarded in those neighborhoods, and I plan to visit to those communities and speak one on one with community leaders and groups and I’m going to walk with the former governor in those areas and get them motivated.”

Election Landscape and Recent Events

The mayoral contest has so far been shaped by the struggle between the former governor and democratic socialist his main rival, whose rise in the polls has made headlines internationally and represented hopes for a revitalized leftwing of the Democratic party.

In a latest mayoral debate, both the democratic socialist and GOP candidate his conservative opponent declared they would refuse the mayor's support if extended.

Earlier this year, Adams had launched his bid for another term as an independent after being indicted on federal corruption charges which were later dismissed in exchange for Adams’s cooperation with federal immigration raids across New York City.

During a separate media briefing on Thursday, the mayor answered reporters inquiring into the support announcement by saying, “Andrew and I will appear together later today.”

The announcement followed a day after Adams and Cuomo were seen sitting courtside together at the the NBA team's season opener at Madison Square Garden, which took place immediately following a contentious candidate debate.
