Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Sparks Intense Debates Regarding AI Players, XP Rewards, and Wait Times

Recently, Battlefield Studios introduced a fresh game mode titled Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this mode mirrors the standard Breakthrough format but features several key changes:

  • Every squad has only 8 real players, with the rest filled by AI-controlled opponents.
  • Actions done by real players grant full XP, while bot actions offer reduced XP.
  • Just a pair of maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
  • Elements like Dogtags, achievements, and career stat updates are disabled.

So essentially, this mode lives up to its name: it offers a casual version of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume it's a good idea, as it provides additional choices for gamers looking for different ways to enjoy the game. But, if video games have taught us anything, it's that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, many BF6 players are mad.

Community Reactions: Anger to Praise

"People want real players. Don't repeat the mistakes of your rivals," reads one reply to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking idea," comments a different user. Meanwhile, in community forums, a player remarks, "It's unclear where we are headed with this title," and someone else lists all the issues they believe to be broken in the game: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this bot mode."

However, for every complaint, some gamers explaining how much they're liking the new mode. "It's very fun to practice, real players keep it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," reads a forum post. "The community doesn't understand that there are gamers who actually go outside and can't play this title 24/7. Let them strike a balance," adds a different comment. A response via social media clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is great for me," while another applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Valid Criticisms and Player Input

All that said, there are valid points to criticize Casual Breakthrough. Some users have highlighted that it could increase wait times more extended for other modes because of the large amount of playlists in the game already. Similarly, certain regions already encounter mostly bots in the current modes. It also seems a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a required amount of real players, even though it primarily centers on combat against bots.

Finally, one of the biggest complaints is that a previous feature was promised to offer full XP, including AI matches, but that was removed when they tried to eliminate XP farming from the mode. So this new playlist feels like the player base compromising in the middle, according to a Reddit comment. A different user labels this addition as the developers "making a mistake significantly, I experienced great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to change it?"

Looking Ahead: Adjustments Be Made?

Should Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something to date with Battlefield 6, it is that they're paying attention and responding to feedback. Tasks being too difficult were adjusted very quickly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, if their data shows this recent mode is underperforming to their standards, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
