Fashion legend Antony Price, the visionary style architect who crafted some of the most iconic looks associated with David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has died aged 80.

Price was best known for his sculptured silhouettes and theatrical styles, including the light-hued ensembles that featured in rock band Duran Duran's classic music video for "Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message across their platforms."

His passing follows shortly after he presented his most recent collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. The performer Lily Allen walked in a dress that paid homage to the notorious black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" once worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.

A Pioneering Career

Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price relocated to London in the early 1960s to attend the esteemed Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he started his work in men's fashion at the company Stirling Copper and was behind the form-fitting, button-fly pants that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger sported during the band's "Gimme Shelter" tour in the late sixties.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show featured as its opener creations worn by supermodel Jerry Hall, who later wore the wedding dress Price designed for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A frequent collaborator of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price created the memorable jacket the singer wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to fuse menswear and womenswear along with his technical proficiency in shaping sculptural silhouettes made him a "genuine original," according to the UK's fashion authority.

During the nineties, he started creating outfits for Camilla, now Queen Consort, such as various looks for her American tour after assuming the title.

After a career spanning half a century, Price presented his final runway show in London last month in conjunction with the label 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: Central to his design philosophy.
  • Dramatic Impact: Shaping the look of rock and pop.
  • Genre-Blending Design: Merging menswear with womenswear.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: Spanning iconic musicians and members of the royal family.

The industry says farewell to a genuine innovator whose legacy on the visual landscape of music remains indelibly etched.
